A plethora of studies have revealed that cigarette smoking can cause permanent lung damage, cancer, developmental issues, and much more. For that reason, many people turned to vaping to minimize health risks, or quit smoking.

However, experts are still not convinced that e-cigarettes are safe devices since inhaling chemicals into one’s lungs cannot be completely harmless. More and more studies find the possible risks of vaping.

The Royal College of Physicians in the U.K. recommends using the devices since they’re safer than tobacco cigarettes. On the other hand, the group doesn’t say that e-cigarettes are safe either.

There may be long-term health effects that experts are worried about such as nicotine dependence and inhaling various chemical compounds and byproducts. Even nicotine-free products contain chemicals that may harm the body in years.

What’s more, chemicals that have been deemed safe for human consumption may become toxic if they’re heated. For instance, when heated, glycerin releases formaldehyde. Coloring and flavoring may also result in toxic byproducts when exposed to a source of high temperature.

Inhalation Can Cause ‘Some Harm’ in the Long Term

The Royal College of Physicians acknowledges that there is the risk of “some harm” in the long run due to the inhalation of the chemicals in the products.

On top of that, nicotine remains highly addictive even in e-cigarettes, even though some people argue that tobacco makes nicotine addictive. In fact, tobacco is so addictive because it contains nicotine. People prone to addiction can start with e-cigarettes and end up as drug abusers, experts warn, since nicotine can alter the brain and cause addicts to crave more of the substance.

There are also some other health risks associated with vaping such as dizziness, shortness of breath, and nausea. These reactions all telltale signs of nicotine poisoning. There is also the risk of injuries from exploding batteries in e-cigarettes, which can lead to severe burns, dental injuries, and even permanent blindness.
