An increasing amount of older aged smokers are now looking to vaping as an alternative to smoking. One such example is a woman in her 70s named Jeannie Cox. Since she has made the switch to vaping, Cox has reported that she breathed much easier. In addition, her nighttime cough which she attributes to smoking since being a teen has ceased. She also reports being able to sleep better and feeling generally happier.

So why are older aged adults such as Jeannie Cox making the move to vaping now? One reason which Jeannie explains is for health concerns. Vaping is seen to be a much healthier alternative to smoking. It also viewed as being a way to wean people off smoking altogether.

However, is vaping that much safer or healthier than regular tobacco smoke? Apparently, it is. There are now numerous studies that prove that vaping instead of lighting up a cigarette will be better for your health. One of the main reasons why vaping is considered so much safer than smoking is because it lacks the carcinogenic chemicals that are added to cigarettes.

Dr. Steven Schroeder who leads the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center in California says that vaping is a much safer alternative than smoking combustible cigarettes. While he admits that vaping still contains nicotine, it does not contain the harmful chemicals found in cigarettes. This alone makes vaping up to two thirds less harmful than smoking.
Nicotine is an addictive substance says Dr. Steven Schroeder. However, it does not really harm your health he says. If you are just looking for a way to consume nicotine in a safer way, then vaping is the way to go he adds.

Another health expert considers vaping to be a form of harm reduction. While it is still not good for you, it is better than the alternative says Dr. David Abrams. He is a clinical psychologist who studies the link between nicotine, smoking and its effects on people. Quitting cigarettes entirely is the best thing anyone can do he says. However, if you can switch to vaping then you are doing your health a favor by doing harm reduction.

Dr. Abrams, Schroeder and many other medical experts are now encouraging older aged smokers to try vaping instead of smoking. It can help stave off chronic diseases that typically affect older people. This includes diseases such as heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure.

It is clear that the vaping industry will have to do a better job of marketing to older folks. Vaping is mostly associated with a more younger audience. However, that may soon change in the future.
